At the age of 32, David was told by his doctor that he would need to be on high blood pressure medication for the rest of his life. Rather than accept that, David made changes to his diet and started using an elliptical. Eventually, he started walking and then running. In short, David started moving!
It can be intimidating when someone asks us to join them for a fitness class or join a gym or to even go to a 5K race! When it comes to being active, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
So, what’s the answer?? At Hometown Happenings, our solution is #WeMoveNWI (TM). Our purpose is to create a community where anyone and everyone who wishes to be active will feel welcome. How you move is up to you! Run, bike, walk, do yoga, dance, kayak, attend a boot camp class.. just be active! To help you along the way, we will offer:
- Thoughts and advice from people just like you and I who are moving with us.
- Advice from local experts in fitness and nutrition.
- Exciting events – including themed runs & walks, scavenger hunts and virtual races where NO ONE will feel intimidated.
- Fun rewards to help you reach your own personal rewards. As you reach each milestone… running or walking 10, 25, 100 miles or more… or, as you attend more and more workouts or classes… we will have a ceremony and recognize you with a button for you to wear or display marking your achievement.
How do you get started?
- Join the #WeMoveNWI Forum – This forum is free and is a place to share your thoughts and accomplishments as you join us in moving ourselves and our community forward.
- Become a #WeMoveNWI Member – A nominal fee of $10 allows you to receive milestone button awards recognizing your achievements for running or walking or in attending workouts or classes. It also allows you to participate in reward ceremonies and enjoy exclusive member discounts.
