Community invited to compete in Crown Point Swim Club’s Sprint & Kids Triathlon
CROWN POINT, IN – The Crown Point Swim Club (CPSC) is sponsoring an event that features healthy competition while promoting fitness in the community.
Children and adults are invited to take part in the CPSC Sprint & Kids Triathlon at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 28th, at the Crown Point High School, located at 1500 South Main Street in Crown Point, IN.
“We wanted to host a top notch triathlon in Crown Point, a family oriented sport in which the entire community could participate.” said Chris Wickard, the event’s race director and internationally know local triathlete. “The Crown Point High School has a great facility to put on an event like this, and hosting this event is a great way to expose kids and adults to the exciting and growing sport of triathlon.”
Entrants can tackle the triathlon alone or sign up with a team. Sprint participants (ages 14 & older) will swim 400 yards, equivalent to 16 pool lengths, and then bike 12 miles before running 3.1 miles through the streets of Crown Point.
Kids (ages 6 – 9) will swim 50 yards, equivalent to 2 pool lengths, bike 2 miles and run 500 yards. Older kids (ages 10-13) will swim 150 yards, equivalent to 6 pool lengths, bike 4 miles and run 1 mile.
All of the events will be timed. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female, and the top competitors in each age group. Age groups are Kids: 6-7, 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Sprint: 14-16, 17-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80. All finishers will receive a finisher’s medal.
Registration for the Sprint is $48 in advance (before September 7), $30 for the Kids race and $80 per relay team. Everyone registered before September 7 is guaranteed a commemorative technical shirt. The triathlon is a USA Triathlon (USAT) Sanctioned Event, which means a minimum one-day USAT membership is required. USAT Annual members are not required to pay the one-day USAT membership fee. Participants, or parents of the children taking part, must also sign consent forms before the race.
Proceeds benefit the Crown Point Swim Club, a USA Swimming year round competitive swim team offering high quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities.
The goal of the Crown Point Swim Club is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to international competitor.
