WHY: Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
The IMPACT: Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana currently serves over 1,000 girls each year throughout Lake, Porter, Jasper, and LaPorte counties. Since starting with one team of 15 girls in the fall of 2007, our council continues to grow exponentially. We currently provide the program to over 50 schools and community organizations, and will continue to expand throughout the Northwest Indiana community.
